Liverpool’s partnership with US sportswear giant Nike has officially started, bringing an end to a five-season affiliation with another US sportswear company, New Balance.
On Saturday, Liverpool and Nike unveiled the club’s new 2020/21 home kit, embossed with the simple Liverbird-style badge and with teal and white trim on both the collar and the sleeves.
The red, white and teal have been traditional colours down the years, with relation to the traditional club crest. The now-iconic 96 emblem, surrounded by the eternal flames, sits proudly on the rear of the neck in memory of the 96 Reds supporters who sadly lost their lives in the Hillsborough disaster.
The teal holds a symbolic connotation with the city of Liverpool as it is the colour of the Liver Birds that sit so proudly looking over the city on top of the Liver Building.
The partnership brings together the current Premier League, European and Club World Cup champions with perhaps the world’s most famous sports brand in a multi-year deal.
Liverpool’s partnership with Nike has the chance to transform future club kit partnerships, as the club in its new footing both on and off the field, thrives to become the best on the planet in all departments.
As part of the new deal, Nike is supporting numerous initiatives around Liverpool including school holiday and summer camps as well as a bursary scheme for a BAME coaching course.
Nike will outfit the men’s, women’s, and academy teams, as well as coaching staff, and will also provide support for the vital work of the LFC Foundation, the club’s official charity.
All Liverpool kits are constructed with 100 per cent recycled polyester fabric, made from recycled plastic bottles.
Both the home and the goalkeeper shirt are available to order immediately with additional items going on sale from August 4th.
