Academy boss Beale staging discussions over Oxford job

Liverpool’s academy coach Michael Beale has held talks with Oxford United over becoming their new manager, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The coach took part in two separate discussions with the club last week although nothing is thought to be finalised.

The League One club were given permission by Liverpool to speak to Beale about the vacant management position.

He has been at the academy since September and has been playing a key role in helping out the club’s youngsters to progress.

Discussions with the manager and the club are thought to have gone well, with Beale wanting to ensure that there is a good relationship between the first team and the youth team given his role.

He is stated to be happy at Liverpool but is keen to make the move into the first team management role at some stage.

The Oxford owner Eales spoke about the situation in a recent interview.

The bar has to be someone who we feel fits with the club and will do a better job than (caretaker manager) Faz.

We’re just trying to make sure we get the right fit with the philosophy of the club.
