Alberto Moreno’s injury not as bad as first feared

When Alberto Moreno hobbled off the pitch just before half-time of the 7-0 win over Spartak Moscow, it looked certain that he’d picked up a serious ankle injury.

The Spaniard’s ankle seemed to twist awkwardly as he blocked a shot and despite his best efforts to continue, he had to be taken off and replaced by James Milner.

However, after the game, Jurgen Klopp hinted that the injury might not be as bad as first feared.

He said:

It was a strange situation. He’s a tough guy. If he can’t continue the game, you must consider it is something serious but in treatment room, it didn’t seem so serious. Maybe we have been lucky.

If Moreno isn’t fit for Sunday’s Merseyside Derby against Everton, Klopp will have to decide whether to select James Milner or Andy Robertson at left-back.

Robertson has not featured much since his move from Hull City in the summer, but Milner has been used as a midfielder this year, so logic suggests that it’ll be the Scottish international who gets the nod if Moreno isn’t available.
