England manager Gareth Southgate has revealed that midfielder Dele Alli is expected to return from injury in time for Tottenham Hotspur’s match against Liverpool after the international break, according to Sky Sports.
Alli withdrew from the England squad following their defeat to Spain in the UEFA Nations League on Saturday and will miss their friendly against Switzerland.
The injury suffered by the 22-year-old is not serious and he is expected to be ready in time for the Premier League clash with Liverpool on Saturday 15th September.
When speaking in a press conference about Alli, Southgate said:
He’s had a minor strain but I think he should be fine for his club this weekend.
I thought Dele’s performance was good against Spain. He makes critical forward runs and he learned a lot from the game.
Both sides have started the season in blistering fashion, but Spurs’ good run was halted as they lost to Watford, whilst Liverpool ground out a win away against Leicester City.
Alli’s fitness will be a huge boost for Spurs, who will be looking to prove their title credentials against Jurgen Klopp’s confident Reds on the weekend.
