Amazing statistic shows where Liverpool should be in the Premier League table

An interesting statistic shows that Liverpool should be top of the Premier League table currently.

The Reds sit fourth in the division at the moment, as their title defence continues to lose momentum.

They are six points adrift of leaders Manchester United, and with tough games to come away to Tottenham and West Ham this week, Jurgen Klopp’s men could find themselves out of the battle for glory if they are not careful.

Sky Sports have released an image of what the Premier League table looks like based on xG (expected goals), highlighting exactly where Liverpool have been going wrong.

They would be leading the way by a point ahead of Manchester City currently, had the Reds taken the chances they were expected to score.

Meanwhile, United are down in a lowly sixth place, suggesting they are over-performing hugely in front of goal.

The table certainly makes for interesting viewing, and while Liverpool’s defence has been a major issue this season, it shows how wasteful they have been in the final third.

Klopp’s men have lost a ruthlessness compared to last time around, when they buried chances at key times and only dropped two points in their first 27 league matches.

If Liverpool are to retain the title in May, they must improve greatly with their finishing, or accept that they will fall short.
