Mikel Arteta admits Anfield is the toughest place to go

Man City’s assistant manager and former Arsenal player Mikel Arteta has recently admitted to Marca that Anfield was the toughest stadium he ever played at during his 17 year professional career.

This just shows how powerful the Anfield faithful are as Arteta has played against the likes of Spanish giants Barcelona at the Camp Nou and also Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The Spaniard who has played a massive role in City’s back to back Premier League titles wins told Marca, via Football 365:

I had the feeling of being stuck. It happened with Arsenal. You say: I don’t know what’s going on, stop the game, please.

A great and recent example of this would be Liverpool’s 4-0 Champions League semi-final win against Spanish Champions Barcelona as the Catalan club could not handle the irresistible Reds on the night. It was another of those magical nights at Anfield for the Reds as they overcame a 3-0 first leg deficit.

Arteta has lost three of his four meetings at Anfield as Guardiola’s assistant manager with the worst being City’s 3-0 quarter-finals first leg Champions League defeat to the Reds on the 4th April 2018.
