After missing Liverpool’s 2-0 win against Aston Villa on Saturday, striker Mario Balotelli faces a race against the clock to be available for tomorrow’s Capital One Cup semi-final first leg against Chelsea at Anfield.
The Italian is hoping to overcome the chest infection, which resulted in him being unavailable for the win at Villa Park. According to Brendan Rodgers, Balotelli arrived at Melwood for training today feeling unwell, and will be assessed tomorrow before a final decision is made.
Balotelli has struggled to find his best form in his short spell on Merseyside and has been linked with a move back to his homeland as a result. The latest club to be interested is Parma, according to Gianluca Di Marzio. The Serie A side’s offer of an initial six month loan, despite Balotelli stating his desire to stay and fight for his place at Anfield earlier this week, has been rebuffed by those in the boardroom at Anfield.
Steven Gerrard is also an injury doubt for tomorrow, whilst Joe Allen, Jon Flanagan, Brad Jones, Glen Johnson and Daniel Sturridge are all unavailable for the highly anticipated clash with the league leaders.
