Barcelona are confident that they will beat the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United to a deal to sign Ajax captain Matthijs de Ligt, who has been capturing the attention of Europe’s biggest clubs this season.
Liverpool have been linked with the youngster but it is now looking likely that he will follow fellow Ajax team mate Frenkie de Jong who will join the Spanish champions in the summer after agreeing a deal back in January.

According to The Independent, Barcelona believe that they will strike a deal with Ajax and the player for him to join the club this summer.
The 19-year-old captain could guide his side to the league title this season and looked set to lead his side out in the Champions League final but visitors Tottenham had other ideas.
The Dutch club surprised the whole of Europe when they defeated Real Madrid and then Juventus to set up a semi-final tie with Spurs.

The Independent have also discovered that there has been significant progress in Barcelona’s move for de Ligt, who is valued at around £60m which is a good price for a centre-back who possess the quality this youngster does.
It is now looking extremely likely that de Ligt will join up with De Jong in Spain which leaves Liverpool having to look elsewhere to sign another defender.
