Liverpool target Christian Benteke will tell current club Aston Villa that he still wants to leave the club when he meets with Villa manager Tim Sherwood on Wednesday.
The Belgium striker is reluctant to stay at Villa Park and wants a new challenge and Anfield looks like his next destination.
However Villa are determined that the 24-year-old will leave for no less than his release clause of £32.5m but the striker is determined to force a move away.
Brendan Rodgers and Liverpool are reluctant to meet the required sum.
Two years ago, Benteke submitted a transfer request to then manager Paul Lambert and it’s understood that he doesn’t want a repeat of that but is still keen to secure a move from the club.
Aston Villa were prepared to offer the forward, who has been capped by Belgium 24 times, a new contract and make him the club’s best paid player but there’s little hope.
He still has two years left on his current contract but Villa are in no rush to move him on despite the possibility of the situation turning sour.
Benteke and the rest of the Villa squad are due to fly out to Portugal on Thursday the day after he hopes to meet with Sherwood.
The Villans will be hoping to keep hold of him, as current midfielder and captain Fabian Delph’s future is also uncertain with Manchester City being interested in his services.
