Liverpool announced the signing of Adam Bogdan today and the goalkeeper has wasted no time in sending a warning to current first choice ‘keeper Simon Mignolet.
The 27-year-old joins from Bolton Wanderers on a free transfer and is keen to make the most of the opportunity. He told the official club website:
“I would like to take this opportunity and play as many games as I possibly can, and be a number one ‘keeper for Liverpool.
“How do I do that? I have to do it on the training ground first of all, I have to prove myself and prove to the manager that I’m able to do that then when I get the chance, I have to take it and play well. That’s how it works.
“I think it’s a massive challenge. I respect him (Mignolet) as a ‘keeper. We’re going to compete, of course, that’s the nature of this position and the sport, but at the same time we are going to help each other as well.”
The Hungarian international is very experienced and amassed over 100 appearances for the Trotters.
It was initially thought Liverpool would chase a new ‘keeper for the first team after Mignolet’s shaky start to the season. But the Belgian redeemed himself and his form improved. He had a solid end to the season but will now face competition from new boy Bogdan for that goalkeeping spot.
In other news, it has been confirmed that James Milner and Danny Ings will join up with their new teammates for their pre-season tour of Australia and Asia, along with Bogdan.
It remains to be seen whether Brazilian Roberto Firmino will play some part in the tour after having just played in the Copa America.
