Last season saw one of the breakout stars for Liverpool after a number of defensive injuries.
Bolton-born defender Nathaniel Phillips stepped up to the mark when Virgil van DIjk, Joe Gomez, and Joel Matip were all absent.
Himself and youngster Rhys Williams made a great partnership at times during the campaign and towards the end.
However, Phillips was the standout star, with WhoScored recording him as the clubs second best player last season.
This has led to plenty of interest in the 24-year-old, with Burnley reportedly making an official approach…
According to The Telegraph, as cited by DaveOCKOP on Twitter, The Clarets have contacted the Reds over Phillips.
The report states that the club are willing to listen to offers starting at £10million, with add-ons to be negotiated.
Add-ons could take the fee for Phillips to around £15million, which would be a great price to receive.
However, it doesn’t seem right to be selling another centre-back after last seasons issues.
The Reds had a lack of options in defence after injuries, and the sale of Dejan Lovren last summer.
This led to youngsters such as Phillips and Williams to be called upon – and selling Phillips doesn’t make sense.
His impact last season has clearly shown he can be a strong part of this squad, and his quality in depth is needed.
Hopefully, the club will realise this and keep Phillips on the books, giving Liverpool some impressive defensive options next season.
