Former Liverpool defender and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher says that want-away Reds winger Raheem Sterling risks tarnishing his reputation.
The 20-year-old wants to miss the club’s pre-season tour as he looks to force a move to Premier League rivals Manchester City.
Despite Sterling’s wishes, the club expect him to join up with the squad as they fly out to Thailand despite the fact that on Wednesday he missed training after phoning in sick.
Carragher, who sent his entire career at Anfield says the whole saga could ruin the player’s image.
“He’s starting to get a reputation that could be hard to rid himself of in the future,” he wrote on Kicca.
“All clubs at times have asked a player to push a move through but even so it’s still a story that doesn’t reflect well on Raheem.”
The Reds have already rejected two bids from City, including one worth £40m, and are anticipating a third offer.
Carragher added: “This at times comes from the club who are chasing the player – in this case Man City – who ask a player to try and force the move after having two bids that were unsuccessful.”
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers remains adamant that the player is not for sale and won’t consider any bids less than the club’s valuation of £50m.
