Jamie Carragher admits he is worried about Roberto Firmino, claiming he has “dropped off” as an all-round footballer,
The 29-year-old has struggled for form for a large period now, despite the odd good performance thrown in sporadically.
Firmino was again below par against Manchester United on Sunday, missing three good chances and failing to impress with his general touch and decision-making.
Speaking on Sky Sports‘ Monday Night Football [via The Boot Room], Carragher outlined his current concerns about the Brazilian:
I must say I am worried for Firmino. He’s never been seen as the goalscorer. That’s the responsibility of the other two.
But he’s there to chip in. And when they’re not scoring, I just feel he needs to be a bigger goal threat.
Even yesterday, he had a couple of chances, not quite striking the ball right. I also think bringing players into the game has dropped off. And also, the counter pressing and winning the ball back has dropped off with Firmino, and not just this season.

For the first time, I think there is genuine conversation to be had about Firmino being past his peak.
Liverpool’s No.9 turns 30 later this year, and his style of play and impressive injury record means he has got through an incredible amount of work over the past four or five years.
As Carragher alludes to, Firmino’s all-round game is struggling, rather than just his finishing, which has never been the greatest.
Too often, his passing his off-target and heavy, or his past ability to gel everything together is nowhere to be seen.
Hopefully, Firmino’s dip will eventually be overcome – his flamboyant character means he may have struggled more than anyone without crowds – but he has to go up a gear or accept losing his place.
