City’s De Bruyne returns to training ahead of Liverpool meeting

Kevin De Bruyne is ready to provide Pep Guardiola with a major fitness boost ahead of this weekend’s game against Liverpool.

According to a report from the Liverpool Echo, the Belgian has finally made his long-awaited return to training following his knee injury.

He has been out since August but has made better progress than what was expected, with original reports claiming he could face a number of months on the sidelines.

Despite De Bruyne’s absence City have been as strong as ever collecting 19 points from their first seven games to see them placed joint-top of the table.

The Belgian international was pivotal last season as they won the Premier League and EFL Cup, contributing 12 goals to Pep Guardiola’s side.

City face a big match against fellow title contenders Liverpool this weekend, but this is meeting is likely to be too soon for the midfielder as he steps up his recovery on the training ground.

He is reportedly targeting a return to first-team action for the Manchester Derby which comes in the middle of November, but after returning to training earlier than expected he may now be available before that.
