The transfer of England right-back Nathaniel Clyne from Southampton to Liverpool looks all but complete as the defender is set to arrive on Merseyside on Monday.
Jason Burt of The Telegraph reported that Southampton have accepted Liverpool’s bid of £10.5m with £2m in add-ons, despite originally saying they wanted £15m for the full back.
James Pearce from the Echo has reaffirmed this, and says the 24-year-old will undergo a medical this week.
Clyne would be Liverpool’s sixth new arrival of the summer after James Milner, Danny Ings, Adam Bogdan, Joe Gomez and Roberto Firmino all agreed deals that will become official on July 1.
Clyne would have been entering his final season under contract at Southampton which his fee is less than Manchester United had to pay to take Luke Shaw from Southampton last summer.
The right-back will automatically be first choice at Anfield and former Reds defender Jamie Carragher thinks it’s a great move for both the player and the club.
Wrtiting on KICCA last week Carragher said:
“I saw Nathaniel Clyne at St Mary’s after a game last season and told him to sign for LFC – he took my advice!
“I think it’s another good signing for the club to go along with the other business already done.”
