Danny Murphy uses Mohamed Salah to rubbish price-tag claims

Mohamed Salah has been nothing short of a revelation since arriving at Liverpool in 2017.

Signed for what now looks to be a bargain £34m from AS Roma (BBC), the former Chelsea winger came with bundles of hope over expectation given his previous Premier League spell.

From the outset on Merseyside, the flying winger dubbed the ‘Egyptian King’ has been firing on all cylinders – scoring a remarkable 123 goals in just 198 outings.

Now, former Anfield favourite Danny Murphy has referenced the 29-year-olds arrival when discussing the possible price tag placed on Tottenham star Harry Kane on talkSPORT.

I think comparing prices, it’s all relative to time, isn’t it? You could say that Liverpool paid what £30 or 40 million for Salah? What are you going to do? Compare because of how many goals he scored? You know, you just go on and on with that argument. It’s about timing. The other thing is that we don’t know what Kane has got inside of him to cause a problem and to get out because this is his career we are talking about.

Salah has continued his fine goalscoring form despite struggles elsewhere in Jurgen Klopp’s side this season – netting 29 goals in 46 appearances across all competitions.

The Tottenham ace has been somewhat of a rival to Salah since the Egyptian landed at Anfield – the duo more or less going head to head for Golden Boot honours.

That could be said for this term as well. with the England captain currently one goal ahead of the Liverpool ace.

Kane’s future remains very much in the balance in north London, with the 27-year-old recently admitting a desire to win big trophies – something that is currently not happening at Spurs.

Klopp himself could be in the market for a Kane-Esque striker this summer as calls for a recognised frontman grow strong, albeit the mooted £100m plus fee would see the Reds steer well-clear.
