One-time Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov has revealed on Instagram that he wishes that ‘unbelievable’ Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara played for his former club.
Berbatov, who played for the Reds’ arch-rivals between 2008 and 2012 and scored four times against Liverpool during his career in England, raved about Thiago and wished that the Spaniard had opted for Old Trafford instead of Anfield.
The Bulgarian said of the 29-year-old [via HITC]: ”Great player, I like him a lot. I wish that he played for Manchester United. But, unfortunately, he is playing for Liverpool. But he’s unbelievable.”
Unfortunately, Liverpool fans have so far been stripped of the opportunity to see all of the qualities possessed by their summer window arrival from Bayern Munich due to a knee problem incurred in the Merseyside derby in October.
The Spaniard has made just two appearances under Jurgen Klopp but is edging closer to a return all the time and could feature in the matchday squad for Sunday’s clash with West Brom.
Since arriving on Merseyside, despite not playing his part on the field as much as he would have hoped, Thiago was named in the FIFPro team of the year – a mark of the player the Premier League champions have on their hands.

The excitement around the arrival of Thiago was palpable in the summer, and to be denied the chance to see their new man in action so soon in the circumstances in which it was taken away was a bitter pill to swallow.
However, with Klopp recently confirming that the £25m man is two full training sessions away from consideration, Kopites can begin to get excited all over again.
With Liverpool continuing to lead the way domestically despite their lengthy injury list, adding the likes of Thiago back into the squad is an ominous prospect for the chasing pack – something Berbatov may acknowledge given his comments on the Spaniard.
