Diogo Jota won’t be back in action for Liverpool for a number of weeks, Jurgen Klopp has confirmed.
The Portuguese winger has been absent since the beginning of December, when a knee injury picked up against Midtjylland ruled him out for two months and counting.
Liverpool have missed Jota hugely since then and they will hope he is back as soon as possible, with the Premier League champions struggling for form and goals in recent weeks.
Speaking to reporters after Wednesday’s defeat to Brighton, Klopp gave a slightly worrying injury update, saying that the 24-year-old is still a few weeks away from a return.
He outlined: “Diogo, I don’t know exactly, a couple of weeks. Two, three, four, I’m not sure.”

Jota has been a massive loss for Liverpool ever since getting injured, having scored nine goals in his first 17 appearances for the Reds.
The 24-year-old provided top-class competition for Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, but that was suddenly taken away in cruel fashion.
The Brazilian was again poor against Brighton and he is most at risk of losing his place when Jota eventually returns, considering how superior the latter’s form had been before his injury.
It is vital that Klopp has the former Wolves man to call upon until May, as Liverpool look to ensure they don’t struggle for a top-four finish, and also attempt to go far in the Champions League.
