Divock Origi’s Euro 2020 chances have been dealt a blow, with Belgium manager Roberto Martinez admitting he needs to be playing to get into the squad.
The 25-year-old has been a bit-part player at best for Liverpool this season, appearing for just 70 minutes in the Premier League.
Origi has been linked with a January exit from Liverpool, but as the days tick by, it looks more likely that he will stay put until the end of the season.
Speaking to FC Inter News [via Sport Witness], Martinez discussed the striker’s Euro 2020 hopes, with his verdict not too positive:
He is a great talent. From a very young age he achieved a high level of performance. In 2014 he started the World Cup in Brazil; seven years have already passed.
He remains a young athlete, who despite having scored historic goals in the Champions League and Premier League with Liverpool in the last three seasons, did not have the time expected, at least here with Belgium.
He is an athlete who is not afraid, nothing is too big for him, so much so that he has had that success I was talking about before.”
What is certain is that he would need to play more, and have a more central role. Here there are many expectations regarding his decision in this transfer window.

Origi’s Liverpool career is reaching its natural conclusion, with the Belgian proving hugely ineffective since his goal in the 2019 Champions League final.
He has scored just twice in the last two seasons, and far too often, his cameos are ineffective.
For Origi’s own international hopes, he should be looking to seal an exit in the coming days, otherwise it looks increasingly likely that he won’t be named in his country’s squad.
A summer departure looks more on the cards, however, with Jurgen Klopp no longer seeing him as a reliable squad member.
