Liverpool have reportedly been considering a bid for Christian Benteke of around £20 million, but it has came to light that the 24-year old has a release clause of £32million, according to numerous media outlets.
Christian Benteke gave a helping hand to ending many Liverpool fans’ dream of giving captain Steven Gerrard a dream farewell, he scored the equalising goal in their semi-final over the Reds.
Aston Villa Manager Tim Sherwood, who has been in charge for three months, said: “There’s a buy-out clause in his contract so it will be impossible for us to stop him if he wants to go.”
“Most players have it when they sign new contracts but someone’s got to meet that buy-out clause and if they don’t it won’t be considered because we don’t want to lose him.”
The 46-year old confirmed that the club had received no bids for him yet.
“He’s made no indication that he wants to leave. I’ve not had a conversation with him. I’ve told you my view on it, I don’t think he should be moving clubs before a European Championship.”
“By playing for Aston Villa it hasn’t hindered him being the first choice at Belgium up to now.”
“So to come here and score at the ratio in which he has scored, since I had taken over – if he ends up scoring 20 or 30 goals next season he is probably going to be playing for Real Madrid.”
“If he scores 30 goals next season he can go to the best club in the world, surely. The kid could be that good.”
Earlier this week, Kop Legend Steve Nicol urged Liverpool to break the bank for the striker “I am very positive about Benteke,” Nicol told talkSPORT
“I wouldn’t like to play against him. The guy is a beast. He scores goals and I actually don’t think he gets the credit he deserves for the talent he has with his feet.”
“I would be more than happy for Christian Benteke to be at Liverpool next season.”
In comparison to Liverpool’s striking force, none of the Reds strike force come close to the Belgian’s scoring tally in the Premier League last season. Only Raheem Sterling with seven goals puts up a minor fight to the Villa striker who netted thirteen times last season.
