Flanno’s recovery path takes him to Qatar

Jon Flanagan is still on the road to recovery after a major knee injury, and that road has taken him to Qatar, and more specifically the Aspetar Hospital.

The Gulf Times is reporting that the Liverpool full-back spent time at the facility in an attempt to aid his rehabilitation after missing the entire 2014-15 season.

The same publication says that the Aspetar Hospital “provides leading-edge medical treatment for sports-related injuries, and is staffed by some of the world’s leading sports medicine practitioners and researchers within state-of-the-art facilities.”

Aspetar’s Chief Operating Officer Ibrahim al-Darwish spoke about Flanagan’s time at the facility. He said:

“We are happy to be taking a relevant role in Flanagan’s recovery through an access to our state-of-the-art facilities and technology, and with our world-leading sports medicine practitioners and researchers. The fact that Flanagan chose to come to Aspetar is a testament to our goal of assisting athletes and sportspeople in achieving their full potential through the provision of necessary clinical support, expert knowledge and state-of-the-art facilities to maximise their training and competitive potential. We wish Flanagan the best of luck in his recovery, and look forward to seeing him back in the field soon”.

Flanagan also spoke about being at the hospital and said:

I’m delighted to be here to speed up my recovery. The facilities at Aspetar are amazing, and there’s a great rehabilitation centre and physiotherapist to help me with my injury. My thanks go to the staff for all of their support and care”.

Despite his injury, Flanagan signed a contract extension at the club, and manager Brendan Rodgers believes that his absence was another reason for Liverpool’s poor 2014-15 campaign. Speaking back in May, the manager said:

He has been a huge miss for us this season.”

People talk about the goalscorers this year and absolutely the goalscorers that we miss, but we definitely missed Jon Flanagan in equal proportion. Because of his aggression, he’s very tenacious and he’s a very good footballer.
