Former Egypt star claims Liverpool are “considering selling” Mohamed Salah

Former Egypt international Mohamed Aboutrika believes Mohamed Salah is “not happy” at Liverpool, and that the Reds are “considering selling” him.

Salah was among the goals yet again on Saturday, scoring twice from the substitutes’ bench in Liverpool’s 7-0 win away to Crystal Palace.

Before the game, quotes emerged from the 28-year-old about not being made captain away to Midtjylland – something that he admits disappointed him.

Now, Aboutrika is claiming Salah is in an unhappy place at Liverpool right now.

Speaking to beIN Sports [via Goal], the ex-Egypt striker gave his thoughts on the forward’s Anfield future:

I called Salah about his situation at Liverpool and he is upset, but that would never affect his performance on the field.

I know that Salah is not happy in Liverpool, he told me the reasons why he is not happy but they are secrets and I cannot talk about it in public. One of the reasons that made Salah angry was that he was not the captain against Midtjylland.

If Salah was a player at Real Madrid or Barcelona, and playing at the same level as Liverpool, he would’ve won the Ballon d’Or, and it is normal for a Spanish newspaper to ask Salah about Real Madrid and Barcelona,” added the 42-year-old.

In my opinion, Liverpool are considering selling Salah for economic purposes.

I do not have any influence over Salah’s decisions, he is my friend and brother, and he is smart enough to know what is best for him.

It is difficult to know what to believe with Salah at the moment, but the hope is that the situation is being blown out of proportion.

I don’t think it was a great look that he decided to openly talk about the Liverpool captaincy, particularly as it was a proud night that saw Trent Alexander-Arnold skipper his boyhood team for the first time.

There is a lingering feeling that Salah may end up wanting one more fresh challenge at a big club in his prime, so this possible unhappiness could be him angling for a move to Barcelona or Real Madrid.

In fairness to Liverpool’s No.11, however, he has spoken about focusing solely on the Reds, so the hope is that he remains at the club for many years to come.
