Former Leeds United striker Noel Whelan has urged the Whites to seal a reunion with James Milner this summer.
The Liverpool star has enjoyed five excellent seasons at Anfield, proving to be a hugely influential figure both on and off the pitch.
His career started out at Leeds, however, with the midfielder once becoming the youngest goalscorer in Premier League history whilst at the Yorkshire side.
With Leeds on the verge of a return to the top flight, there has been speculation linking Milner with a return to Elland Road.
Speaking to Football Insider, Whelan said he was fully behind the idea, but admits the 34-year-old could stay put:
You want your home-grown back at your football club. I am not sure if he would leave Liverpool right now. He is one player that Liverpool would want to keep because of the professionalism he has.
He stayed home and watched the FA Cup when the young lads were playing instead of going abroad – that is invaluable.
For a club to have a professional like that, concentrate on the FA Cup even though he is not playing that is brilliant for the younger lads.
He looks after his body and he still has the hunger to win. He has got a lot to offer.
I would love him back at the club at some point. I am not sure whether it would be next season but he would help us, absolutely.

I can fully understand why anyone of a Leeds persuasion would want Milner back at the club this summer, considering the career he has had, winning two Premier League titles already.
I don’t believe you can find a more dedicated professional anywhere in the game, with Milner’s level of focus and consistency seemingly rubbing off on other players at Liverpool.
It would be a surprise if Milner left the Reds at the end of the season, however, considering he only signed a contract extension in December.
The former England international still has enough left in the tank to be an important figure for Jurgen Klopp moving forward, so that reunion at Leeds may have to wait.
