FSG set to stick by Brendan Rodgers

Fenway Sports Group, Liverpool’s owner, intend to back manager Brendan Rodgers to again turn things around at the club as the Reds head into the summer on the back of a disappointing season and a particularly humiliating last day at Stoke City, Jamie Jackson of the Guardian reports.

After the 6-1 thrashing at the Britannia and the failure to secure Champions League football, the Northern Irishman’s job appeared to be under threat, with meetings scheduled in Boston involving the owners, the board and Rodgers to evaluate where it went wrong, and how to move forward.

However, reports suggest that there is no rush to assess his job and the other options available, and that he will be backed to put things right.

After missing out on the title last season, plus losing Luis Suarez to Barcelona and Daniel Sturridge for the majority of the season through injury, the Reds finished 22 points off last season’s total and the general consensus surrounding the club is that many of the signings brought in have not lived up to expectations, which has contributed to the club’s downfall.

Now that Steven Gerrard has departed, the Reds are entering into a new chapter in the club’s quest for success, and a great deal of character will need to be shown in order to get Liverpool back where they belong, where the likes of Adam Lallana, Emre Can, Alberto Moreno and Lazar Markovic will look to push on and make more of an impact.

And it seems likely that Rodgers will continue to be the man to lead them once again in the search for trophies.

After the defeat at Stoke, Rodgers said:

I’ve always said if the owners want me to go, I go. It’s as simple as that. I still feel like I have a lot to offer here. A lot has happened that has made the job difficult, and we’ve kept fighting right to the very end.
