Paul Gascoigne has advised Raheem Sterling to not worry about the recent criticism he has received.
Sterling is suffering from a loss of form and his latest contract issues with Liverpool are not helping.
Whilst playing for England in 0-0 draw against the Republic of Ireland, the 20-year-0ld was subject to jeers from certain parts of the crowd.
But Gascoigne, who himself suffered from a fair share problems off the field, had some words of wisdom for the England youngster.
He told BBC 5 live: “There are 11 players on the pitch and Raheem was picked out.
“That means he is doing something right, because Roy knows he is a great player.
“I’d say to Sterling if you are getting kicked left, right and centre and getting booed it is because they are scared. They don’t want you on the ball because you are dangerous. Take it as a compliment. The time to worry is when they stop talking about you.”
Sterling is expected to feature for the Three Lions against Slovenia on Sunday.
