Ex-Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard says he is ‘surprised’ by the departures of Liverpool backroom staff members Mike Marsh and Colin Pascoe.
Assistant manager Pascoe and first-team coach Marsh were let go following the end-of-season review and at the acceptance of manager Brendan Rodgers.
Gerrard said, as quoted in the Liverpool Echo: “I was surprised Brendan Rodgers made changes to backroom staff at Liverpool. I will be interested to hear his reasons why.”
Sami Hyypia, Rene Meulensteen and Pako Ayesteran have been linked with the vacancies as Rodgers looks to add more experience.
Gerrard, who was unveiled as a new pundit for BT Sport on Tuesday, also had his say on Raheem Sterling’s contract situation:
“I hope Raheem stays. For his development and stability. The frustrating thing for me would be if he went to another team and was just a squad player.”
