Charlton Athletic defender Joe Gomez has been pencilled in for a medical at Liverpool on Friday, according to the Liverpool Echo.
The Reds have a triggered release clause in the youngster’s contract which now allows Gomez to sign for an initial £3.5 million, rising to £6m.
Gomez is due in Merseyside to complete a medical and become Liverpool’s fourth signing of the summer.
According to Ben Smith of the BBC, Derby County is ‘one option’ for a loan spell next season, but the Daily Mail believe that he will go on the Reds’ pre-season tour next month to allow him to be part of the first team squad.
The 18-year-old is a highly rated defender who can play as a right-back and a centre-back.
He was monitored by a number of clubs around Europe including Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund.
Gomez has been capped at Under-19 level for England and enjoyed a successful season for the Addicks last season, making a total of 24 appearances.
It is believed that Liverpool have been tracking the player for quite a while with Brendan Rodgers receiving positive reports from his team of scouts.
Gomez will join James Milner, Danny Ings and Adam Bogdan as the summer recruits at Anfield.
