Harry Kane could miss Tottenham’s clash with Liverpool if referee Andre Marriner reports that he didn’t see an apparent headbutt incident between Kane and Cesar Azpilicueta during Spurs’ 2-0 loss against Chelsea on Wednesday evening.
During the first half of the game, the Tottenham captain appeared to headbutt Azpilicueta and if Marriner’s report indicated that he didn’t see the incident, then a panel will decide if the incident is worthy of Kane getting a three-game suspension.
Whilst the headbutt by Kane wasn’t the most vicious or forceful ever thrown on a football pitch, he certainly moved his head towards the Spaniard.

In his column for the Daily Mail, former Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg said that even though the contact was minimal, it is still a red card offence and if Marriner didn’t see it, then retrospective action could still be taken.
Harry Kane can count himself lucky not to have been sent off on Wednesday…The Tottenham striker deliberately moved his head towards the Chelsea captain. There looked to be minimal contact with Azpilicueta but it does not matter how severe it was. Even if it was an attempted headbutt, that still carries the same punishment – a red card. Fortunately for Kane, Azpilicueta did not make a meal of it. The incident seemed to be missed by the match officials and the FA could now take retrospective action against Kane.
If Kane is handed a three-game ban, he’ll miss Tottenham’s games against Arsenal, Southampton and Liverpool.
Kane has scored five goals in eight games against the Reds, so Liverpool won’t be too upset if the England captain is suspended for the game!
