Jordan Henderson has spoken about Raheem Sterling’s ongoing contract dispute with Liverpool, and says he hopes the 20-year-old stays at Anfield.
Henderson, who is widely tipped to be captain next season, would like to see Sterling in the red of Liverpool for many years to come.
Speaking on Radio 5 Live, Henderson said: “For such a young lad he is so mature and does not let the outside world affect him.
“His work ethic is amazing. He is improving all the time. I hope we can keep him at Liverpool for many years, he can blossom here and become a top player.”
Sterling’s agent Aidy Ward has received criticism for the handling of his client’s contract with Sterling reportedly holding out for a higher weekly wage.
However, Henderson talks about the side the fans don’t see: “He is not who people think he is.
“He gets a bit of criticism because of how things have been dealt with, but I know him better as a person.
“I could not fault him as a person or a player. He is a great lad and gives everything for the team.”
Henderson also discussed the arrival of James Milner, stating that he’s a valuable addition to the squad.
“Milner is a fantastic signing, not only as a player for his quality but as person in the dressing room, on the training field and the experience he has got – it is a massive signing.”
