Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson says he’s looking forward to playing with new signing James Milner.
The Reds have completed the signing of the 29-year-old on a free transfer from Premier League rivals Manchester City, subject to a medical.
Henderson, who is expected to be named the club’s new captain when Steve Gerrard leaves, has praised the ability that Milner can bring to Anfield ahead:
“He’s got a lot of ability. And he does a lot of the dirty work as well. For me, it’s a fantastic signing and I look forward to playing with him next season.”
Both Milner and Henderson are currently away with the England squad ahead of their friendly against the Republic of Ireland and European Championships qualifying clash against Slovenia.
The midfield duo have both played and trained alongside each other for the Three Lions and Henderson knows what he’ll add to team:
“His attitude on and off the field is first-class,” he said.
“You know you’ll get energy from him. He’s a quality player.
“I watch a lot of City players last year and he contribute a lot with assists and goals.”
The arrival of Milner will provide competition for Henderson in that central midfield role as well as adding some much needed depth alongside Joe Allen, Emre Can and Lucas Leiva.
