Newly appointed Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has insisted that Brendan Rodgers never lost the dressing room despite the Reds’ poor season.
Stoke City thrashed the Anfield club on the final day of last term 6-1, putting the Northern Irishman’s future in doubt.
However, Henderson was delighted when the owners put their faith in Rodgers for the new season.
Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Henderson said: “I wasn’t worried about anything changing.
“I always knew the players had faith in Brendan. I believed that he had the full backing of the owners too.
“Brendan has been brilliant for this football club and I think he can take it even higher.”
Since the appointment of Rodgers in 2012, Liverpool fans have seen the form and performance levels of Henderson increase dramatically.
Previously, the 25-year-old had been told he was allowed to leave in a deal to bring then Fulham player Clint Dempsey to Liverpool, way back in Rodgers’ first summer as manager.
But Sunderland-born Henderson believes Rodgers has improved the team: “He has been outstanding for certain individuals. I really do believe he has made us better, improved us as a team, he has got a philosophy and the way we want to play has grown.
“He had the full backing of the players from before Stoke and he still has now.
“It’s same with the club and the supporters as well.”
