Glenn Hoddle has urged Raheem Sterling to stay at Liverpool for at least this season, mainly for his development.
Appearing on the Clare Balding Show, Hoddle said:
“If I was advising him, I would say “stay”. I think as a player, for his development, if he stayed there for another season, he might be in a good position.“
“He could go abroad. If he goes abroad I think that might be a mistake for him. I just hope that if he does move, he continues to progress. He’s nowhere near the finished article. He’s a fabulous player, his potential is there, but I think this is a real key moment.“
Former Liverpool goalkeeper David James was also on the show discussing Sterling and his situation at Liverpool.
James said: “When you’ve got the manager of arguably one of the biggest clubs in the world telling everybody that he’s the best young talent in Europe, then give him the money for the best young talent in Europe.“

The whole show will be aired tonight (Thursday) at 8pm on BT Sport 2.
There will also be a showing on BBC2 tomorrow (Friday) at 10pm.
