‘Important’ – Jeremy Jacquet admits Liverpool player has really surprised him

Jeremy Jacquet has been one of Liverpool’s shining lights this season under Andoni Iraola.

The Frenchman has quickly become an indispensable asset at Anfield and has started every Premier League and UEFA Champions League game this season alongside Virgil van Dijk,

Jacquet has already been capped by the French national team under Zinedine Zidane and looks like the next big central defensive talent in the making.

And the Frenchman has singled out Van Dijk for special praise as they continue to get to know each other at the heart of the backline.

“When you talk and look at the best centre-backs, his name comes up,” said Jacquet about the Dutchman via Sky Sports.

“Watching his videos on YouTube, but training alongside him here every day is completely different.”

“I wasn’t expecting it to be like this. He has been important. He speaks so much either on the pitch or away from it.

“His leadership skills on the pitch have impressed me. I hope we’re going to do big things in the future together.”

Liverpool haven’t been at their best defensively in recent weeks and are coming on the back of successive defeats vs Arsenal and Fenerbahce.

However, if Jacquet continues developing in the same vein, he can cover for Van Dijk in the coming years, which will ensure the Liverpool captain prolongs his decorated Anfield career.
