New signing Danny Ings has spoken of his relief after getting off the mark early. The former Burnley man scored his first goal for his new club on Friday, as Liverpool emerged as 2-0 winners over Adelaide United.
“I’m just over the moon I’ve got my first goal,” Ings told the Liverpool Echo.
“As you can imagine as a striker going to a new club it’s so important to get the first goal and whether it’s a friendly or a competitive match doesn’t really matter.
“But now that I’m off the mark I can relax a bit and hopefully more goals will follow.”
That last point is something that will resonate well with Liverpool fans. Following a barren 2014-15 campaign, goals are a necessity this season, and the 22-year old may yet prove to be one of the major suppliers.
“I’m just going to work as hard as I can to score as many goals as I can for Liverpool,” the England Under-21 international added.
“It was my dream to play for a club like this and now that I’ve got it, I’m going to take the chance with both hands.”
After coming off the bench to strike at the Adelaide Oval, let’s hope that today’s goal was the first of many.
With the arrival of Christian Benteke seemingly imminent, Ings could be the man to play alongside him whilst Daniel Sturridge regains his fitness.
Liverpool will fly to Malaysia on Tuesday, to complete the final leg of the 2015 Asia tour.
