New signing Danny Ings has revealed that Brendan Rodgers’ eye for young talent influenced him to join Liverpool.
Ings was a part of the England Under-21s squad at this year’s European Championship despite being aged 22.
In an interview with Liverpoolfc.com, Ings said of Rodgers: “He’s fantastic at developing young players. For a player like me, I think it will be perfect to work with him.
“I’m really looking forward to getting that relationship with him and the rest of the coaches and the players as well. It’s something I’m really excited to do.”
The former Burnley forward arrived at Anfield after his contract at Turf Moor expired but the two clubs are yet to agree on a compensation fee, which is due as the forward is under the age of 24.
Ings scored 11 goals in 35 appearances last season for former the Clarets but admits it will be a challenge at Anfield:
“Obviously I’ll see how his team plays and how I can adapt to the way that Liverpool play. It’s definitely going to be a challenge but it’s a challenge that I’m looking forward to. I just can’t wait to get started.”
The striker is one of many to arrive through the door at Melwood this summer, which he sees as a positive:
“It’s always a massive sign when a club brings in quite a few players during the window – it shows that you mean business.
“The standard of the players that are coming in is fantastic. The players will definitely add to the team and really make it stronger.”
It looks likely that a tribunal will agree the exact figure that Liverpool will pay Burnley for Ings’ services.
