Insigne not for sale, says Napoli president

Lorenzo Insigne will not be sold by Napoli this summer, according to president Aurelio De Laurentiis.

The Italian superstar has not enjoyed his happiest season with his boyhood club in 2018/19, leading to rumours of unrest.

He has been linked with a summer switch to Liverpool, with his pace, trickery and versatility all attributes that would appeal to Jurgen Klopp.

Manchester City have also been rumoured to be monitoring the situation, as they continue to look at options to further strengthen their squad.

The newly-appointed Napoli captain is going nowhere, however, if De Laurentiis’ latest comments are to be believed.

Speaking in a press conference, the club’s president said Insigne was a priceless player who will not be sold:

I’m not aware of any interest in Lorenzo. He’s an extraordinary and attractive player, very few of whom are like him.

When someone’s attractive like him, it’s normal if there are seven, eight, nine, 10 teams interested. However, one thing is to want him and another is to put money on the table.

We want to see the colour of someone’s money first. There’s no price for Insigne, otherwise, we would’ve put a release clause in his contract.

He knows this is my home and his home. We think alike.

When he wants to extend his contract, there won’t be any problems.

Insigne has 13 goals and seven assists to his name this season, as he continues to be a key man at Stadio San Paolo.

Napoli reached the Europa League quarter-finals on Thursday night, losing 3-1 at Red Bull Salzburg but progressing 4-3 on aggregate.
