Mohamed Salah has been named the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year, thanks to his incredible 2017/18 season.
The Egyptian forward has scintillated this season in red, so much so he’s on the verge of breaking the 38-game scoring record, needing just one more goal.
Salah is the first player from Africa to scoop the FWA award and only the third Liverpool player ever to do so in the Premier League era, along with Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarez.
Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne finished in second place, missing out on the award by less than 20 votes. Tottenham’s Harry Kane finished in third.
Other players that received votes for the award were: Sergio Aguero, Roberto Firmino, David Silva, Raheem Sterling, Christian Eriksen, Nick Pope and Jan Vertonghen.
It’s one more award for Salah, who will now be looking to help the Reds to the Champions League final on Wednesday, as he travels with his side to Rome for the semi-final second leg.
A season of honours and awards will be sweet in his debut season at Anfield, but nothing will make it sweeter than picking up a major trophy.
