Jamie Carragher hints at Mohamed Salah joining Real Madrid or Barcelona

Jamie Carragher believes Mohamed Salah could be eyeing up a move to Real Madrid or Barcelona.

The Egyptian is going through an extremely rare lean spell in front of goal, not scoring in the Premier League since the 7-0 win at Crystal Palace on December 19th.

Prior to that game, Salah had hinted to AS about a potential move to Spain and now Carragher has only intensified that talk.

With quotes provided by the Mirror, the Liverpool legend claimed the 28-year-old is a player who may be driven to play for one of La Liga’s two heavyweight clubs, even though a transfer might not go through:

Mo Salah is definitely one of those players who would look at his career and maybe want Barcelona or Real Madrid on his CV.

Some players look at their career like that. I think Eden Hazard always wanted to go to Real Madrid at some stage.

I wouldn’t be surprised if a few years ago, when Mo Salah was mapping his career out, that is something he would like to have done.

But I think the situation now – financially and his age – means clubs don’t have that kind of money for him.

You are talking in excess of £100million and I think Real Madrid and Barcelona would be looking at Mbappe or Haaland or even Mane ahead of Salah now because of his age.

Those two clubs are not flush with money and his contract still has some time to run at Liverpool. So I’m not fearful as a Liverpool fan that he is going to leave any time soon.

There does seem to be a growing swell of opinion that Salah could be on the move this summer, especially with him not exactly cutting the happiest of figures at the moment.

Liverpool’s No.11 is someone who possesses an ego, in a healthy way, and he may believe he belongs at Madrid or Barca.

That being said, the grass isn’t always greener on the other side, as Philippe Coutinho has shown since his move to the Nou Camp in 2018. Both clubs could struggle to afford him in the current climate, too, as Carragher alludes to.

Liverpool are a better team than either Spanish giant at the moment, and have a superior manager, so Salah may think twice before contemplating packing his bags.
