Liverpool legend John Aldridge has urged striker Divock Origi not to ‘waste his career’ at Anfield.
This comes following reports claiming that the Belgian was indeed keen on finding a move prior to tonight’s deadline (Tuesday 31 August).
Despite interest from the Premier League and abroad in recent months, the 26-year-old remains on Merseyside and seemingly out of Jurgen Klopp’s first-team plans.
Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Aldridge has pleaded with the forward to seek pastures new.
I think Divock should go. I think he has a year left on his contract and Liverpool really need to try and get money for him. But if he’s in a position where he wants to go for free, he’s entitled to let it run. When you’re a player, realise it’s not all about money. You don’t want to waste 12 months of your career, just sitting on the bench, coming on as a sub four or five times and getting the odd game. It’s a short life and you should just want to play football. The money they get now, it’s irrelevant. They get more than enough to keep them going, their children going and their grandchildren going. But if they want to let their contracts run out, they’re entitled to do it.
Origi has been left out of the last two matchday squads entirely having failed to come off the bench during the opening day victory over Norwich City.

Liverpool would surely be unlikely to sanction any departure for Origi so late in the day without having an adequate replacement lined up.
Despite the obvious need for a new challenge and regular game time, the Reds look set to be without Roberto Firmino for a period and Jurgen Klopp would be reticent to allow another attacking option to leave.
Meanwhile, the club has this morning confirmed yet another key contract renewal in the shape of club captain Jordan Henderson.
