John Barnes cites ‘obvious’ issue and makes ‘three new signings’ claim

Liverpool icon John Barnes has tipped the Reds to show a marked improvement on last season for one ‘obvious’ reason.

Jurgen Klopp’s side struggled at times last year and only managed to muster a third-place Premier League finish due to an upturn in form during the run-in.

Back to action with a 3-0 victory over Norwich City last weekend to kickstart the 2021/22 campaign, there is optimism glory could once again return to Anfield.

That’s the view of legendary figure Barnes, who has told the Daily Mirror that the injury struggles cost Klopp’s side a title at retaining their title last term.

If you look at us and the problems we had last year, with our three centre-backs missing, it’s obvious. Of course, we’ve signed (Ibrahima) Konate as well but having (Virgil) van Dijk, (Joe) Gomez and (Joel) Matip back, I think last year we would have won the league had we had them. And now we’ve got them back, we’ve added Konate so that’s why we don’t need to make any signings, because we’ve had three new signings.

Whilst competition is certainly fierce in the upper echelons of the English top-flight, a full-strength Liverpool squad, perhaps with one or two more additions before the window closes will surely see the Reds challenge once again.

Having endured a tough season last time out, without fans and a host of key players for the majority, Kopites will be relishing the chance to watch their star names in the flesh.

Starting with Burnley on Saturday, Klopp’s side will be hoping to right numerous wrongs

Whilst Barnes’ ‘three new signings’ suggestion may be accurate in principle, one or two further additions before the window closes would fill fans with equal levels of confidence.
