Long-term Liverpool servant Glen Johnson will leave this summer upon the expiry of his contract, and his likely destination is the Turkish Superlig.
Besiktas, who knocked Liverpool out of last season’s Europa League, are closing in on the full-back, and he could officially be their player by the end of this week, according to reports from Europsport TR.
Since beating Liverpool on penalties, manager Slaven Bilic has departed the club in favour of West Ham United, but Besiktas are still keen on bringing in Johnson despite not yet having a manager in place.
It is understood that the Englishman will sign a two-year deal with the Turkish side who finished third in their domestic league, and will earn €2.3m per season, or £32,000 per week, a quarter of his reported wage at Liverpool.
The 30-year-old scored nine goals in his 200 appearances for the Reds since joining for around £18m from Portsmouth in 2009.
