Jordan Henderson is unlikely to be fit in time for Liverpool’s Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid next month, according to The Athletic‘s James Pearce.
The Reds’ skipper has been ruled out for around three weeks with a hamstring injury, having left the field early against Atletico in midweek.
That means Henderson now faces a race against time to be fit for the second leg at Anfield on March 11th.
Responding to a question in a Q&A for The Athletic on Friday, Pearce admitted he would be “surprised” if the 29-year-old featured when Diego Simeone’s side come to town.

Henderson being out at such a key time in the season is a big blow, especially considering how good he has been this season.
The captain is enjoying his best-ever campaign for the Reds, in my opinion, not only showing superb leadership, but showing his quality, with three goals and five assists in the Premier League.
Henderson was magnificent the last time time Liverpool required a comeback at Anfield in Europe, shining in the unforgettable 4-0 win over Barcelona.
If he is out against Atletico, others will need to step up, namely Naby Keita, James Milner or Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, one of whom would be likely to take his place in the midfield.
