Virals: Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has stern message for online abusers

Yesterday saw Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp hand out a stern message for trolls on social media.

Online abuse has only grown over recent years with racial discrimination one of the bigger factors.

Following Liverpool’s 3-1 loss to Real Madrid last week, a number of the clubs players received racial abuse on social media.

To which manager Jurgen Klopp responded too during his press-conference prior to yesterday’s game with Real Madrid.

The German, as quoted by journalist DaceOCKOP on Twitter, stated that individuals branding this type of abuse are not welcome at the club…

It was a strong message from Klopp and one that many members of the footballing world will agree with.

Abuse of any type is not welcome in our sport and the fact that Klopp and the club stand behind that is a huge message.

Football is a sport all about inclusion, not segregation.

The sooner that this message is understood by those so called members of the fan base the better.

Recent events have seen organisations in football take a stand against racism and online abuse but not enough action is being doen.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson took a fantastic stance, however, with him recently handing over control of his social media accounts.

The English midfielder gave full access of his social media accounts to anti-cyberbullying charity Cybersmile.

The aim of the exercise was to promote first-hand accounts and incidents of online abuse and the campaign has been a success.

matchday.
