Kevin Campbell pins Thiago’s struggles on misfiring trio

Liverpool midfielder Thiago should be cut more slack after struggling to make the desired impact during his debut Premier League season, according to Kevin Campbell.

Upon arriving from Bayern Munich, Thiago was heralded as the man to further enhance Jurgen Klopp’s side, offering the Reds a whole new dimension with his unrivalled passing range.

Things haven’t quite gone to plan for the Spaniard, who missed four months of the campaign with a knee injury, leading to criticism from certain quarters.

However, Campbell, a former Arsenal and Everton striker, has told Football Insider that the cultured midfielder’s struggles arent necessarily all of his own making.

I think Thiago’s been alright if I’m honest, Liverpool’s problems have been that decimated defence and the fact that the front three have not hit the heights they hit in the last two seasons. Thiago is a good player, he probes, he picks up the ball, he’s something a bit different to the other Liverpool midfielders. Whether he plays or not, if the front boys aren’t banging the goals in, you’re going to struggle.

Thiago has made 24 appearances in all competitions this season on either side of his lengthy layoff, earning an impressive average Sofascore rating of 7.07 in the Premier League.

Given the struggles across the board this season in Jurgen Klopp’s side, Thiago can be afforded more than a little leeway.

Next term when the Reds return to full strength, the 30-year-old will flourish once more and Kopites should be back inside Anfield to witness it first hand, all being well.
