Kevin Ratcliffe lauds Liverpool youngster Neco Williams

Liverpool youngster Neco Williams has endured a rather inauspicious start to life as a first-team figure at Anfield.

Despite showing flashes of quality since graduating from the club’s academy, the 20-year-old has struggled to have the desired impact on Jurgen Klopp’s plans.

Much of this is down to the class of positional rival Trent Alexander-Arnold who plays nigh on every game at right-back.

Williams has found a role within the Wales senior side however and continues to flourish on the international stage.

As the home nation drew 1-1 with Belgium on Tuesday night in Cardiff, former Everton star Kevin Ratcliffe was full of praise for the full-back on BBC Radio Wales (16/11, 22:26).

What a player we have got in Neco Williams. He’s got it all.

Fellow pundit and another ex-Wales international Danny Gabbidon echoed the plaudits whilst appearing on Sky Sports (16/11, 22:26).

Williams has been absolutely outstanding tonight.

The Wrexham-born ace operated in a left-wing back role for Robert Page’s side and was a constant threat to both Belgium and Belarus beforehand.

So far this season the 16-cap starlet has played just 97 minutes for the Reds’ first-team.

This newfound role for Williams certainly gives the Welshman an alternative string to his bow and Klopp food for thought.

Just two years his elder, attempting to prise one of the world’s best in Alexander-Arnold out at right-back looks to be an impossible task.

If the £7.2million valued ace can transform into a more versatile operator, perhaps there is a long-term future on Merseyside yet.
