Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Jordan Henderson will not be fit to face Fulham at the weekend.
The midfielder started in the Reds’ Champions League win over Bayern Munich in midweek but came off in the first half.
Henderson appeared to twist his ankle and was unable to continue, prompting fears that he could be sidelined for a sustained period.
Klopp spoke to the media ahead of his team’s trip to Craven Cottage on Sunday afternoon but failed to deliver good news on the condition of Liverpool’s captain.
As quoted by ESPN, the manager said:
It’s serious enough to rule him out for the weekend. The international break will hopefully be long enough to bring him back. It is to do with his ankle. It’s the best it can be but still not good enough.
The German is optimistic about Henderson’s chances of returning after the international break, but his place in the England squad for their European Championship qualifying matches against the Czech Republic and Montenegro appears in doubt.
Liverpool will be desperately hoping that the midfielder will return quickly, as they make a final push for the Premier League title.
