Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has hinted that Joe Gomez could remain at the club this season, rather than head out on loan.
As reported by the Liverpool Echo, the player has been heavily linked with a temporary move away from the club, with Brighton interested in his services following their promotion to the Premier League.
Klopp is said to be impressed by Gomez’s physical condition after the player ruptured his ACL, an injury that kept him sidelined for several months.
The German is hoping to utilise Gomez’s versatility within the first-team squad.
Joe is another player who is now in the best shape since I have been in. It’s very positive. Joe can also play the full-back positions. He played there at Wigan with no training. We need him also in offensive situations. With Clyney and Milly injured, it’s important we have more options there.

Gomez himself has also previously expressed his desire to remain at Anfield this season, rather than leave on loan.
For the defender, he now has to weigh up whether he sacrifices more game time, potentially at Brighton for a role in the Liverpool first-team squad, as he looks to build upon the early promise he showed during the start of his Reds’ career.
