Lazio have joined the race to sign Liverpool’sXherdan Shaqiri this summer, according to a report in The Express.
Shaqiri has recently expressed his desire to stay and fight for a place in Jurgen Klopp’s side, however, amid Lazio’s interest, it remains to be seen if that continues to be his stance.
The Serie A side have turned their attentions to Shaqiri after they missed out on the signature of Manchester City’s David Silva, who opted for a move to Real Sociedad after seemingly being on the verge of a Lazio switch.
Journalist Nicolo Schira has added fuel to the fire of the rumours on Twitter when he said:
After the loss of David Silva (he has signed with Real Sociedad) Lazio are looking Liverpool’s player Xherdan Shaqiri and the free agent Jack Bonaventura.
The Swiss international has seen his game time limited with the champions and has been linked with a move away from the club, with injury issues at the heart of his lack of appearances.
The 28-year-old, who joined from Stoke City in 2018, made just seven outings throughout the Premier League winning campaign, although one of them was an inspirational goalscoring performance in the 5-2 Merseyside victory at Anfield.
Should Shaqiri move on it is likely to be at a profit for the Reds, who paid the players’ release clause of just £13.5 million following Stoke’s relegation to the Championship.
