Liverpool agree fee with Birmingham City for Calum Scanlon

Liverpool have had a bid accepted by Birmingham City for England youth international Calum Scanlon, as reported by The Times.

The 15-year-old and his family are now believed to be considering whether a move to the famed Reds academy would be the next best step.

Scanlon can play on the left of defence or midfield and has already represented England at under-15 level. He has now been subject to a bid from the Premier League champions which remains undisclosed but is understood to be less than £500,000. [The Times]

Jurgen Klopp hasn’t shied away from giving youngsters an opportunity to prosper – academy graduates such as Neco Williams, Rhys Williams, Curtis Jones and Caoimhin Kelleher have all emerged to play leading roles this season. Teenage midfielder Leighton Clarkson was also handed his Champions League debut in recent weeks when he faced FC Midtjylland.

Previously, Klopp was the catalyst behind Trent Alexander-Arnold being handed his first team bow as a teenager, a move which has seen the right-back become one of the best in the world in his position.
