Virgil van Dijk believes that Liverpool can get the better of Premier League rivals Manchester City in Europe, with the two sides set to meet on Wednesday night.
The Dutch captain has enjoyed an impressive start to his career on Merseyside since making the switch from Southampton, managing six clean sheets in 20 league appearances, as well as a winning goal in the Merseyside derby in the FA Cup.
The January addition is looking forward to the idea of lining up for Liverpool in the quarter-finals of the Champions League for the first time.
Van Dijk expressed his excitement when speaking to the Liverpool Echo.
It’s very exciting, It’s the quarter finals of the Champions League and I’ve never played at this stage before. I’m looking forward to playing in a fantastic atmosphere at Anfield, hopefully we will be enjoying it afterwards as well.

I’ve watched big European games at Anfield, and I know they are very special. The atmosphere will definitely help us a lot. We know they are beatable, This is a different game, We need to keep our focus and prepare well. We know it’s going to be a big test against them, but these are the kind of games you want to be involved in, we will prepare right.
Van Dijk will be eager to have a crack at City after missing out on the league win over the Manchester club at the start of the year.
The strong centre-half has improved with each game he has played under Klopp, ensuring a calmness to a back four that was known for leaking goals and constant mistakes, his leadership will be key for the Reds on Wednesday night in the first leg at Anfield.
